Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange data between a web server and a client. As the data exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of handling a web hosting account. The commands that can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, in particular, the choices are limited as you shall not have root access to the web server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etc. These are all actions which are performed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the web server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, that you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

In case you have a shared hosting account with our company and you'd like to handle your content remotely through SSH, you can obtain SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal doesn't provide this feature as standard, you can add it with a few mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the CP, you'll see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You can also choose what password you would want to use, as it does not have to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared several Help articles in which you can easily find each of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they're used. In addition, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You shall be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account through SSH regardless of which plan you select when you sign up. With some packages, the function is provided by default, and with others, it may be included as an extra upgrade for as long as you need it. You'll discover the necessary login details in the Hepsia Control Panel, included with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You could select the password that you'll use and if you want to, you could change it on a regular basis with a few clicks for even higher security. You shall be able to see all the commands you can use upfront, because we've listed all of them alongside examples of how they are used so as to perform a certain task. As soon as SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is enabled, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to manage your content regardless of which VPS servers you select when you sign up, as all our packages include this feature by default. You'll not need to add or enable anything manually - the instant your hosting server is ready and you receive the Welcome e mail with the login information, you'll be able to connect and begin working on your sites or any software that you'd like to install and run on the server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account shall be isolated from the other accounts inside the physical web server, you'll be able to do anything you want without any restrictions. You can install any application you require and which will work on a Linux-based hosting server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and work with your files and databases fast and easy.
