Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol that is used to encrypt the data exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to protect the data which clients submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, etc. Any info they enter in any box on the Internet site shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment details shall be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Usually, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be set up, which means the overall cost for your online presence shall be higher. While this may not be an issue for a larger company, it might matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which does not generate big profits if additional money should be spent. This is the key reason why we have taken advantage of an extension known as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

You will be able to use this option with all of our shared hosting plans and with any SSL certificate issued from any vendor. If you choose to use an SSL from our company, everything will be arrange automatically and you will not need to do anything after you order and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will enable you to choose a shared IP to be used and the SSL to be installed by our system, so using this function requires no more than two additional mouse clicks after you fill the needed information for the certificate. The adequate operation of the SSL will not be influenced in any way and any info that visitors submit on your website shall be encrypted and secured in the very same way. The one difference from employing a dedicated address is that http:// shall not open your website, but it is unlikely that anybody will ever attempt to access it that way instead of entering your domain inside the browser URL bar.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers

The shared IP option is available with all semi-dedicated servers and the setup takes only two mouse clicks inside the hosting Control Panel irrespective if you get an SSL via our business or from a third-party vendor. There will not be any difference in terms of how the certificate works or encrypts the info that your visitors submit, so your website will be secure without spending any additional funds for a dedicated IP. The sole thing that'll be different is that https://the-shared-IP won't open your site, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it is highly unlikely that anyone will ever try to access your site in this way as opposed to entering your domain. Additionally we offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs purchased via our company and if you select it and you opt to use a shared IP rather than a dedicated one, our system will set everything up the moment the SSL is approved and issued without any action on your end.
